Cardiff University’s impressive estate is becoming something of a regular feature on TV screens with Main Building featuring in the BBC’s latest major drama series – Sherlock.

More than 120 years after the first publication of the Arthur Conan Doyle books, the BBC has reinvented the famous character for a new audience creating a modern day image of the detective. The up–to-date adaptation of the popular novels features Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr John Watson.

Several complex scenes were shot in a laboratory in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences as well as in the corridors and on the staircase of the University’s Main Building earlier this year, and involved staff from across the University community to help filming run smoothly.
