The production of amyloid-beta (Aβ) in the brain is considered a key event in Alzheimer’s disease, and inhibiting this production could have therapeutic benefits. Through the development of a monoclonal antibody which attaches itself to the cleavage site of the APP molecule from which Aβ is formed, it has been found that the production of Aβ can be reduced in cell culture. The current work involves further testing of the potential therapeutic effects of this antibody.
