Mr Joseph Sweetman

My research interest is in understanding maintenance and change in systems of group-based hierarchy. More specifically, my research focuses on collective action, ideology and power. Central questions include: What gets people to engage in system challenging behaviour (e.g., protest), even when they are members of high status/power (dominant) groups? What role does ideology play in political/moral cognition and behaviour within such systems? How do emotions regulate the maintenance or change of systems of group-based hierarchy? How does social power relate to change and maintenance in group-based hierarchies?
As an extension to the above work, I am also interested in exploring the role of implicit processes in relation to system maintenance and change.
