About our Research
Cardiff is a member of the Russell Group of Britain’s foremost research intensive universities. Research is undertaken in all the Schools of the University, including much ground breaking interdisciplinary research which involves collaboration between academic staff working in different Schools often, though not exclusively, through established Research Centres.
Fundamental research and scholarship establishes new knowledge and extends the frontiers of human understanding and is then applied to produce a wide range of benefits throughout society, including cultural, health, economic and sustainability benefits. In this way research at Cardiff University improves the quality of life and lifetime prospects of people locally, nationally and internationally.
Our research culture is underpinned by substantial strategic investment to provide our researchers – including two Nobel Laureates – with the facilities they need. The University’s ambitious goals require specialist research infrastructure and a modern working environment, which is adaptive and flexible. Cardiff’s state-of-the-art research facilities, resources and research support systems enable our researchers to pursue excellence in basic, applied and practice-based research, in single disciplines and in interdisciplinary work and creates an exciting and vibrant academic community.
